Amazon Warriors rounding off camp with practice matches at Providence

The Guyana Amazon Warriors will end their week long encampment with two practice matches against a Guyana Select XI at Providence.

The first game will be this evening under the lights from 18:00 Hrs while the second game will be a day game beginning at midday tomorrow.

The squad minus captain Martin Guptil and Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa, got together on Monday and had daily practice sessions and match simulation exercises under the guidance of Head coach Roger Harper and Assistant coach Esuan Crandon at the Guyana National Stadium.

Guptil is currently playing in the Nat West T20 Blast in England while Zampa is part of the Australia team in the Ballr Cup Tri-Nation Series. Both players will join the team in St. Kitts ahead of the opening game on next Thursday.

The 16 players will now get much needed match practice ahead of departure for St. Kitts where they will play their first match this season against the St. Kitts Patriots at Warner Park on Thursday June 30.

The Warriors will first have to be cope with the strong Guyana Select Team which has been named as their opponents for the two warm up games. The Select XI will be led by Guyana Jaguars skipper Leon Johnson and includes Test opener Rajendra Chandrika and seven other players with first class experience as well as West Indies under 19 World Cup winning team players, Keemo Paul and Tevin Imlach.

Throughout the tournament, the Warriors will play matches during the day and under the artificial lights and the two practice matches will serve as ideal preparation.

The Amazon Warriors second game will be against defending champions the Trinbago Knight Riders on Saturday July 2 from 21:00 Hrs at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain before returning home for four matches at Providence.

At home the Warriors will open against the inaugural tournament champions Jamaica Tallawahs on Thursday July 7 from 19:00 Hrs.

Their next mission will be a return clash against the St. Kitts Patriots from 12:00 Hrs on Saturday July 9 while they host the Trinbago Knight Riders also in a return fixture from 19:00 Hrs. The final home game will be against the Darren Sammy led St. Lucia Zouks on Tuesday July 12.
