Amerindian Affairs Ministry security guard assaulted, robbed by gunmen

A 57-year-old security guard attached to the Amerindian Affairs Ministry, Thomas and Quamina Streets, Georgetown, was reportedly robbed at gunpoint in the wee hours of Monday. According to reports received, the victim and a colleague were stationed in separate guard huts when two men armed with handguns confronted him. The suspects reportedly assaulted the security guard and demanded the keys to two motorcycles parked in the compound. At that time, the guard informed them that he did not have the keys, but instead they relieved him of a cellular phone and $7,000 in cash before escaping. An alarm was raised, and the police were summoned. The injured security guard was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he is being treated. Detectives have since located CCTV footage, which is being reviewed as investigations continue.
