Andrew… The King of CMRC

– Ming eclipses track record

Blinding performances from Andrew King, Team Mohammed’s, Kristian Jeffrey and Calvin Ming on the final day of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s (GMRSC’s) Ignite meet highlighted the much anticipated event at the South Dakota Racing Circuit as the curtain came down on the event yesterday.
Guyana’s Ming won two of the three Radical races, resetting the lap record during each victory; but his countryman Kristian Jeffery turned in an immaculate performance, in which he demonstrated his experience, to claim victory in the other Radical showdown.
In the first win, Ming beat the circuit record time of Team Mohamed’s Matthew Truelove by three-thousandths of a second, registering a time of 33.297 seconds against Truelove’s time of 33.3 seconds.
Jeffrey started the second Radical race in eighth position due to the reverse grid rule of the Radicals, but he overcame the entire field — including Ming, in a last turn drift past on the gooseneck — for the win.
Ming, who was on pole for the final Radical race, led the field from start to finish; and Jeffrey was this time unable to prevail over his countryman, who lowered the circuit record once again with a blazing fast lap of 33.121 seconds.
In Group Four, Mark Vieira started the final day atop the points’ standings, while defending Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) ace Andrew King was second, and Mark Maloney of Barbados third. However, two outstanding wins and a second place finish by King allowed him to overtake Vieira to win the now stand-alone Group Four title.
Vieira finished fifth in races two and three, and placed third in race one, but this was nowhere near good enough to see him become the third Guyanese to become a CMRC Group Four champion.
Earlier in the day, fans were saturated with the exciting action that took place in the Groups 2 and 3 races and the races in the Choke Starlet Cup, Street Tuners, Sports Tuners and the upright 125cc bikes.
