Anna Regina teen fined for stealing music amplifier

Eighteen-year-old Sunil Ramdeo of Lot 10 Anna Regina Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, was fined on Wednesday for simple larceny when he appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.
The prosecution contended that between March 30 and April 1, 2016, Ramdeo broke into Reshma Lall’s parked minibus and stole a 12-volt amplifier. He admitted to the offence and told the Court he wanted an amplifier. The Court also heard that he returned the amplifier to Lall’s mother.
After Ramdeo returned the amplifier, a report was made to the Anna Regina Police Station where he was subsequently arrested.
The unrepresented teenager told the Court he lived with his grandmother and it was the first time he had stolen anything. He admitted that he knew if he wanted something, he had to work for it. Magistrate Scarce fined the defendant ,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an 18-month prison sentence.
