More than 100 local and international teams are expected to participate in the event and the winners will walk away with a cash prize of $1 million, while the second to fourth-place  finishers will receive $500,000, $300,000 and $200,000 respectively.
The Tournament, which is entering its third year, was officially launched Wednesday at Faye Joseph’s residence at Gaulding Place, South Ruimveldt.
Joseph, who is the President of the Georgetown Domino Association (GDA), urged all teams to get involved in the event to make it a significant occasion. “It is the tournament for this event and we would like to invite Ministry teams, Private Sector teams and even the people who play at the shops, because it is all dominoes and I would like to encourage them all to come on board.”
The event has received major sponsorship from Digicel and the telecommunication giant was represented by Luanna Abrahams at the launch. “Of course, Digicel is pleased to be on board with this event. As a corporate sponsor, we pride ourselves in diversifying sponsorship initiatives, and of course, particularly in the area of sport, we try to lend support in every discipline, so we are happy to be on board with GDA in sponsoring some of the prizes. We wish you guys success in planning and executing and we look forward to a good tournament.”
The Tournament will be played under an Accumulated Points System using a “Zone Sequence”. On the opening day, April 14, the event will commence with an individual competition, dubbed Pull-A-Rama. To enter this event, competitors will pay an entry fee of US$10 or G$2000.
Meanwhile, from 10:00h on April 15, the team event will get underway. The entrance fee for that event is US$220 or G$44,000. Apart from the major prizes, there will be medals, trophies and other cash prizes for best female, first love, etc.
All games will be held at the National Gymnasium. Registration is set to close on March 31.
