Another successful Wado Ryu Junior Championships held

Sensei Dunbar completes 50 years of action

The Guyana Wado Ryu Karate Association (GWRKA) hosted its National Junior Karate Championships with over 50 participants drawn from clubs affiliated to the Association at Banks DIH Limited Sports Club.

Randy Ramkarran was the winner of the Boys 13-15 years age category with Colrick Doris picking up the silver medal while third place went to Rayon Sookram.

The Boys 9-12 ‘A’ Class went to Ravindra Ramkarran followed by Cyrone Nedd in second position and Sachin James third. Vinal Datt won the Boys 9-12 ‘B’ division ahead of Abhinar Singh and Tai Panday.

In the Girls Open ‘A’ category Seara Mohamed was the winner with Ihatiah Frank claiming second place and Akila Hopkinson third.

Malika Rajkumar copped first place in the Girls Open ‘B’ division from Vasann Persaud and Skye Lionel.

Ravindra Singh claimed victory in the Boys 5-8 ‘A’ group from Abhivir Singh and Shadrock Hinds while category ‘B’ top performers were Mahir Rajkumar, Adrian Perry and Nathan Chin.

The tournament was sponsored by United States-based members of the Association Michael Mendonca and Terrence Clarke as well as International Pharmaceutical Agency (IPA) and Banks DIH Limited.

Banks DIH Limited Communications Manager Troy Peters who declared open the tournament lauded Sensei Winston Dunbar for his continued commitment to martial arts in Guyana.

This year marks 50 years since Sensei Dunbar started practicing martial arts locally.

Peters also encouraged parents to attend tournaments and to offer support to their children.
