Appadu racing stables going places with Grande Rainha

A family affair was in full display at the recent Labour Day Cup at the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club. The Appadu racing stables dominated the F Class and Lower race, with jockey Ronaldo Appadu leading the way, while his father and trainer of Grande Rainha supported well.
Grande Rainha displayed consistency with another win and put herself into contention to make it big at the upcoming Guyana Cup in August.
According to owner and trainer Winston Appadu, Grande Rainha was prepared for racing action since the postponed Easter Cup. He also disclosed that the horse is unfazed by the distance since she has shown versatility.
“She was well prepared since the Easter Cup. So she ran here and then will rest until the Guyana Cup.”

“The distance does not bother me. Preparation is the most important thing. It is the key; you have to prepare your horse properly to go any distance. She can go two times around this track and still give good results,” Appadu explained.
Meanwhile, international licensed jockey Ronaldo Appadu said he was delighted to ride Grande Rainha for the first time since he entered the county.
“She has the speed. So I just had to sit down. Since she came in this country I never rode her. I always wanted to ride her. So I have to thank Jermaine [JS] for giving me the chance to ride her.
The next official race in Guyana’s horse racing calendar is set for May 31 at Port Mourant Turf Club, the Independence Cup. Horses will be in top gear for the marquee event, the Guyana Cup for August.
The Independence Cup will see the return of champion horses Dataman and Anthem King.
