Armed bandit killed by security guard

A knife-wielding bandit was in the wee hours of Saturday morning shot dead by a security guard on duty at a service station at Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), after he was alerted by neighbours that someone was attempting to break into a poultry farm which was in close proximity of the fuel station.
Dead is Jarrel “Dumb Boy” Nobel, 22, unemployed of Lot 12 Tuschen, EBE, who died at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) as a result of the gunshot wounds he sustained.
Investigations revealed that at 04:30h on Saturday morning, the guard was alerted that someone was seen in a yard that housed a poultry farm, at Line Top, Vergenoegen. The guard responded and together with the poultry farmer, who observed the intruder at the premises via Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras.
The Police were called but before they arrived, the two men went inside the building, also located on the premises, but Noel realising that they were there, emerged from a room armed with a knife and attacked the security who discharged two rounds, which struck him. The Police arrived just after the shooting and rushed the injured bandit to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was treated and transferred to the GPHC and later succumbed to his injuries.
The security guard is in custody assisting with the investigation. The firearm – a licensed shotgun – is lodged with the Police. The dead man was previously charged for breaking and entering and larceny.
