Armed bandits relieve salesman of high-end phones

– placed order for phone via social media

Armed bandits on Saturday relieved a sales representative of a popular online electronic store – Smart Fix cellphones and Electronics – of several high-end phones at North Ruimveldt, Georgetown. The order for the phones was placed via social media.
Based on information received, the online establishment received an order for four cellphones – three S9s and one S8 – via its Facebook page from a customer whose profile name was “Shameer Shafeek”.
The order came up to $800,000 and it was requested that the proprietor of the business make the drop off at Prashad Nagar, Georgetown.
A sales employee who was tasked with delivering the order contacted the buyer to get directions but was instead provided with a North Ruimveldt, Georgetown address.
Upon arriving at the location, the employee noticed that the woman who turned up to collect the order did not match the description that was previously provided.
Soon after, three men attacked the taxi that was used to deliver the goods and subsequently placed a gun to the taxi driver’s head. They then relieved that employee of the bag containing the phones, his Note10, two other phones and $100,000 in cash.
The armed bandits then made good their escape in a motor car bearing registration number HC 6364.
A report was made to the East La Penitence Police Station and the sales employee tracked down his personal phone and provided the police with the information, but Police were unable to catch the men.
The taxi was later found abandoned in Diamond. The police have also confirmed that the phone used by the bandits was reportedly stolen during a robbery committed on “Shameer Shafeek” on March 22 at Ruby, East Bank Essequibo.
He was also relieved of his motor car.
