Speaking with Guyana Times, Chairman of the Tuschen-Uitvlugt NDC, Vishal Ambedkar explained that the human resource in Guyana is an important facet and as such, must be protected against the deadly virus.
Guyana recorded six new COVID-19 cases in the past 48 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases in the country to 74 as of April 26, 2020.
“As you are aware, the number of COVID-19 cases has been rising and the council agrees that our most important resource, our human resource, must be protected. It is evident that preventative measures are the only sure way of being safe from the virus. And so, with the Tuschen-Uitvlugt NDC residents, members of our business community, and the COVID-19 NSF formed by Dr Irfaan Ali formulated a plan to be more proactive in this regard with our limited resources,” the Chairman posited.
Health centres, post offices, market place and main streets in the various villages were sprayed with disinfecting agents.
The Chairman acknowledged that wearing a mask will protect everyone fully against the virus but urged citizens to take the guidelines set out by the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) and the Public Health Ministry seriously.
“We want to advise the public that mask alone does not prevent the spreading of the virus, we need to practice good hygiene to wash our hands and face. Take special care when bringing items into your home. Wash and sanitise to reduce the risk of exposure to the virus. Eat foods to build our immune systems. Let us all do our part in keeping each other safe, please practice social distancing,” Ambedkar explained.
The Mayor and City Council of Georgetown (M&CC) has also commenced sanitising heavily populated areas within the city of Georgetown in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.
