“Artistes like Skeng” to be banned from public events in Guyana – Home Affairs Minister

More than two weeks after pandemonium broke out at the National Park in Georgetown when gunshots were discharged during the dancehall concert dubbed “Baderation”, and hundreds of patrons had to run for cover, Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn said “artistes like Skeng” will be banned from performing at public events in Guyana.

Kevaun Douglas, known as “Skeng”

This came on the heels of several Guyanese citizens sharing their opinion that the artiste might have influenced the partygoers’ violent behaviour at the concert.
“I have to say here and now, that no artiste like Skeng will ever come again into this country, will not come again into this country under the signature of any person from the Ministry of Home Affairs or from the Guyana Police Force, will not come on a public stage,” he said.
The Minister added that these artistes will only be able to perform in enclosed places if possible.
“If they want, they can go into a private club and behave as badly as they want. We will not sign off on any such artiste or any artiste who has a record of promoting vulgar and lawless behaviour including the firing of gunshots in public places,” Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn said.
The violent behaviour of the crowd occurred when the Jamaica dancehall artist Kevaun Douglas, known as “Skeng”, was on stage performing one of his popular tunes, “Protocol”. The show was organised by Hits and Jams Entertainment as part of their line-up of Genesis X Utopia events.
Following this unruly episode, Police Commissioner (ag) Clifton Hicken had a meeting with the organisers of the show at the Guyana Police Force Headquarters at Eve Leary, Georgetown, where several issues regarding the breach of security and subsequent discharge of gunshots at the concert were discussed.
One person was also arrested in relation to the shooting.
