ASK-G, Wesley prove worth in Karatee Championships

As the Guyana Karate Federation hosted the National Seniors Karatee Championship at the National Gymnasium, on Sunday fierce competition was displayed by all the participants but in the end team Association Shotokan Karate Guyana (ASK-G) was the superior team.

Otho Harris won first prize in the Kata Male 14-17 category while Avinash Ramgolam and Charles Benjamin finished second and third.

The Female 14-17 Kata was won by Alyia Wong followed by Loren Black and Tashana Wong in that order while Nyota Rodrigues, Oneika Ramschit and Rebecca Wesley fished 1st-3rd in the Female 18 year+ Kata.

In the Male 18 year+ Roger Peroune was victorious as Shane Wilkinson finished second and Navindra Sookoo copped third. Wesley redeemed herself from third to win the Female Open Kumite as Lizannie Mohamed got second and Kristine Ramkisson walked away with the third place position. Rodwell Alleyne won the Male Open Kumite -75Kilogram (KG) followed by Peroune and Wilkinson.

Dellon Hyman was victorious in the +84KG Male Kumite followed by Keith Beaton and Prince Roberts in second and third respectively. In the -84KG Male Kumite, Shaqueal Amin copped the top honour and Stowell Barry finished as runner up while Roland Fanfair completed the podium.

In the Male Open Kumite -67KG category, first place was awarded to Navindra Sookoo as Manzoor Ali and Sceon David ended the contest in second and third respectively.

Trevon Miller, Shamar Parkinson and Storm Katchay finished first, second and third respectively in the +68KG Male 14-17 Kumite while in the -68KG 14-17 years, Male, Otho Harris out played Jermaine Kendall, second and Mark Wong who finished third.

Avinash Ramgolam and Charles Benjamin went head to head in the -55KG Male 14-17 Kumite with Ramgolam emerging victorious. In the Female 14-17 Kumite Open Tashani Wong defeated Loren Black for first in the Open Female 14-17 year Kumite while Chelsea Benjamin finished third. With the action moving over to the team category, the Female team Kata was won by team New Amsterdam, comprising of Oneika Ramsuchit, Leah Shariff and Tulsidai Ramotar. Association Shotokan Karate-Guyana (ASK-G) with Chelsea Benjamin, Rebecca Wesley and Kristine Ramkisson was judged to be second.

Shotokan Guyana’s (SKG) trio,Randolph Singh, Shaquel Amin and Prince Roberts won the Male team Kata while Guyana Karate College (GKC) with Kenrick Cheeks, Navindra Sookoo and Otho Harris copped second, followed by Randolph Alleyne, Sceon David, Dellon Hyman representing National Martial Arts Academy (NMAA)

SKG’s Prince Roberts, Shaqueal Amin and Rollex Graham won the Male team Kumite as NMAA’s Rodwell ALleyne, Delon Hyman and Sceon David got second and ASK-G placing third with Shane Wilkinson, Keith Beaton and Roger Persaud.
