The Back Circle Ballers on Sunday hosted a one-day Under-15 football tournament and back-to-school drive at the Back Circle Tarmac in East Ruimveldt, providing community youths with an opportunity to showcase their footballing talent while receiving support ahead of the new school term.
The initiative, held on August 30, brought together young footballers from the community for a day of competition and positive engagement. The tournament formed part of the Ballers’ wider effort to encourage young people to remain focused and pursue positive avenues through sport and community activities.
In addition to the football competition, children from the community benefited from a distribution of essential school supplies as part of the back-to-school drive. The gesture was aimed at helping families prepare their children for the start of the new academic year.
The event also attracted the support of several prominent figures, including President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali; Culture, Youth and Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr; Labour and Manpower Planning Minister Keoma Griffith and Police Commissioner, Dr Clifton Hicken.
Former national cricketer Christopher Barnwell and members of the Ballers Group also supported the initiative, adding to the community effort.
The organisers said the event demonstrated the important role sport can play in bringing young people together, developing their talents and promoting positive values.
With football serving as the centrepiece, the tournament provided the youths with a platform to compete, interact and enjoy the game, while the back-to-school drive offered practical assistance to children preparing to return to the classroom.
