Assault charges recommended for Broomes’ son, girlfriend

…Police deny ministerial interference

Ranks investigating reports of assault involving a Government Minister’s son and his girlfriend were advised to file charges against the two.
Last Saturday, Hector Broomes and his girlfriend, Gilibeth Rodriguez, got into an altercation during which they allegedly assaulted each other.
According to Guyana Police Force Public Relations Officer, Senior Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan, following “thorough” investigations against both parties after the matter was reported, legal advice was obtained.
It was recommended that both parties be charged under the Summary Jurisdiction

Hector Broomes

(Offences) Act Chapter 8:02.
Broomes was slapped with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, while Rodriguez will face two counts: one for assault and the other for throwing missiles. The Police said that they would appear in court at the “soonest” time possible.
Meanwhile, the Force also took the opportunity to further “vehemently” deny reports that of F Division (Interior Locations) Commander Kevin Adonis was ordered by Minister Simona Broomes to release her son after he was arrested.
A local online news entity reported on Monday that the Minister had threatened the Commander to have him fired if he did not keep the matter quiet. However, Adonis dismissed the report when the Guyana Times contacted him on Tuesday last.
“Nothing of the sort [happened], it is contrary to what happened,” the Commander told this publication.
