Home News Linden man accused of unlawful wounding offences denied bail
Twenty-one-year-old Lennox Estwick of Central Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie, Linden was on Wednesday remanded to prison by Linden Magistrate Clive Nurse on charges of unlawful wounding and inflicting grievous bodily harm.
The miner is accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Kent Austin at Amelia’s Ward on August 31, 2017; and of inflicting grievous bodily harm on Dillon Batson at Amelia’s Ward on Friday, January 18, 2018.
Because of this defendant’s failure to attend trial, an arrest warrant was issued for him. Asked his reason for not attending court, the father of one explained that he spends most of his time in the interior.
The prosecution objected to the defendant being placed on bail on grounds of the seriousness of the offences and because he was a no- show for the first matter, which had been called since August of last year.
Noting that the defendant has two pending matters, the first of which he did not appear for trial, the prosecution contended that he may likely not return to court if granted bail.
The presiding magistrate therefore remanded the defendant to prison, and set the matters for recall on April 9 and 13 respectively.
