Balgobin makes impact in NYNCL 40

…Rampersaud contributes as well

Ushardeva Balgobin

Ushardeva Balgobin is a name that many will look up to in the future. This youngster has been creating waves in and out of Guyana, and much more is expected from this young powerhouse.
In the recently held NYNCL 40 tournament, Balgobin, or “Balgo”, as he is usually called by his teammates, representing the West Coast Warriors, made his presence felt before returning to Guyana.
The same could be said for young Berbician Jonathan Rampersaud, who played alongside Balgobin for the Warriors. He scored a brilliant 44 and bagged 5-34.
The West Coast Warriors had inserted the Falcons Cricket Club to bat first, and the Falcons struggled early on in their innings, failing to hold a partnership until Becham Ramraj and Ryan Manickchan put together a healthy partnership with scores of 39 and 51 runs respectively.
No other batsman could offer any form of support, as Balgobin dented the Falcons’ chance of getting a big total with his crafty legspin. The young Guyanese befuddled his opponents to have them post 168 all out in 31.5 overs. Guyanese Jonathan Rampersaud also bagged 1-26.

Jonathan Rampersaud

Needing 169 for victory, the West Coast Warriors had to put on their big boy pants as, while the total was small, their opponents were no joke. Openers Ameer Singh and Balgobin made sure the Falcons paid, as they clipped their wings early in the innings. The pair put together a score of 51 (3×4, 3×6), with Balgobin, who was the aggressor of the two, scoring a whopping 24 ball 44 which included four classy boundaries and three towering maximums.
Rampersaud also chipped in with a patient unbeaten 36 off 32 deliveries, which included four top-notch boundaries, to see his side over the line. The West Coast Warriors ended on 169-4 in 22.3 overs.
Balgobin has played only two matches with the Warriors, and has scored 46 runs at an average of 23.00 at a strike rate of 164.29, and has also bagged a total of 5 wickets. Rampersaud has played 3 matches, scored 73 runs at an average of 36.50 at a strike rate of 94.81, and has also picked up 3 wickets.
