Bandit shot dead after snatching woman’s bag

…accomplice injured

Moments after robbing a woman of her handbag, one of the bandits was shot dead and another one injured after a licensed firearm holder opened fire in their direction.

The robbery took place at about 16:00h on Tuesday at a popular shop at William Street, Campbellville, Georgetown.
The dead bandit has been identified as Randy Bowen of Lot 184 Duncan Street, Georgetown. The identity of the second bandit was not immediately released. Based on reports received, Bowen and his accomplice had attacked the woman and relieved her of the handbag she was carrying.
After committing the robbery, the two men attempted to flee the scene but upon realising what was happening, a resident in the area whipped out his firearm and discharged several rounds, mortally wounding Bowen.

His accomplice was shot once. When Guyana Times arrived at the scene, Police had cordoned off the area as detectives carried out their investigations. The lifeless body of Bowen was seen lying in a pool of blood on the premises of the bar while his injured accomplice was lying on the ground with handcuffs on his hands.
Soon after, an ambulance arrived at the scene and the injured man was taken to be treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). However, the dead man’s father, Andrew Bowen, who positively identified his son’s remains, told the media that his son was no stranger to the law.

In fact, the now dead man was a former employee of the Guyana Water Incorporated and was slapped with several charges in the past including the attempted robbery committed on a police rank in 2018.
At the scene, his father stated “meh son don’t work nowhere; he used to work at GWI and he get fired about a year and something right now and he use to live with his mom. About twice he was charged with same stealing and so… he do about a three or four months remand in prison. I weary talk to him. I do what a father suppose to do, there is [only] so much you can do, you can make the children but you can’t make their mind”.
Bowen’s body was taken to Lyken’s Funeral Home while the injured bandit remains under guard at the GPHC. Police are continuing their investigations.
