Banks DIH employee’s car stolen in daylight hijacking

In broad daylight on Monday, a car belonging to a Banks DIH employee was stolen, after it was parked outside the company’s building at Thirst Park, Ruimveldt.

The stolen car

Based on information received, the red Toyota Allion with registration plate PMM 9484, was stolen from the location at about 14:30h.
Anil Singh, a salesman employed with the company, told Guyana Times that he parked his vehicle in the morning and went about his normal routine at work. At about 14:00h, it was still seen at the location. However, much to his surprise, he went to conduct a small errand and returned to find the car missing.
“I parked in front of Meadow Bank as soon as you pass the Thirst Park turn. I went to do my usual work and I just left to check something for a customer and when I come back, the car was gone.”
The East Coast Demerara resident said security footage captured the entire incident. It showed a man being dropped off by a red X-Trail vehicle and after leaving, the man proceeded to open the car door.
It would’ve taken him a few minutes to do so after which he drove off in the now missing vehicle. It is believed that the man hotwired the car to make good his escape.
“The footage showed a red X-Trail dropping the man that steal it. I saw it at the Harbour Bridge and when I went and attempted to ask the guy, he recognised my work ID and sped off,” Singh detailed.
Singh indicated that he received a call after the robbery was made public, by someone who had spotted the X-Trail near the Demerara Harbour Bridge area. But the driver quickly drove off when he arrived to inspect.
A police report has been filed and law enforcement ranks are still investigating. The footage managed to capture the registration plate of the vehicle involved in the robbery. The 29-year-old father said he had the car for about three years and is hoping to have it recovered.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle is asked to contact 621-5517 or the nearest police station.
On Sunday, Police in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) were able to bust a gang that has been committing several burglaries and larceny in the region, including one teenager that was linked to car hijacking.
