The FIBA AmeriCup 2029 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Pre-Qualifiers got underway on Wednesday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) in Georgetown, with Barbados and St Vincent and the Grenadines recording opening wins in Group B.
Barbados made the stronger statement of the day, defeating the Cayman Islands 89-54 in the opening game of the group phase. Barbados led from start to finish and never allowed the Cayman Islands to take control of the contest.
After taking the first quarter 19-10, Barbados tightened their grip before half-time with a 29-9 second-quarter run. They added another 24 points in the third period before closing out the game comfortably, despite Cayman Islands edging the final quarter 19-17.

Kyrone Alexander led the scoring support for Barbados with 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Carl Thorpe added 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and one block, while Akeem Marsh produced an all-round effort with seven points, 10 rebounds and three assists.
Brad Lansdell was the main contributor for the Cayman Islands, finishing with 19 points, three rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block.
In the second Group B game, St Vincent and the Grenadines defeated Grenada 85-66. The teams were level at 16-16 after the first quarter, but St Vincent created separation in the second period by outscoring Grenada 16-7.
Grenada responded with 24 points in the third quarter to stay within reach, but St Vincent finished strongly with a 33-point fourth quarter to seal the win.
Shad Thomas led St Vincent and the Grenadines with 20 points, while Kevin Cox tried to keep Grenada in the contest with 17 points.
Host nation Guyana was in action against the Turks and Caicos Islands at press time. The result of that match will be published in a subsequent report.
