A 43-year-old man is now dead after he was struck down by a minibus while attempting to cross the East Bank Demerara (EBD) Public Road at Prospect on Wednesday evening.
The accident occurred around 20:00h.
The dead man has been identified as Franklyn Dover, of Lot L First Street, Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
According to Police reports, a Route 42 minibus, bearing registration number BVV 2848, was proceeding south along the western lane of the eastern carriageway of the East Bank Road at Prospect when Dover reportedly ran across the road from West to East and was struck by the front right side of the bus.
As a result of the impact, the pedestrian fell onto the roadway with injuries about his body. He was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Diamond hospital, where he was treated and then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
However, Dover died around 23:15h that same evening while receiving medical attention at the city hospital.
Meanwhile, the 33-year-old minibus driver of Farm, EBD, has since been detained. A breathalyser test was administered to the driver and no alcohol was detected. He remains in Police custody assisting with further investigation.
The body of the 43-year-old man was taken to Lyken’s Funeral Home to await a post-mortem examination, expected to be conducted today.
