Bartica Mayor’s Caricom 10K set for Saturday

The community of Bartica will be the home to many exciting sporting events over the final half of 2016 as the community continues to celebrate Guyana’s Golden Jubilee of Independence. Thus, officials of the town have organized the ‘Bartica Mayor’s Caricom Athletic Road Race scheduled for Saturday July 2 from 15:00hrs.

The race will start at Agatash and proceed into 2nd Avenue then east into First Street and South into 1st Avenue to finish at the entrance of the Bartica Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) Office.

Athletes will compete in the U-13, 15, 17, 19, Open and Masters categories and top performers will receive trophies and medals.

The race is the brainchild of Bartica’s Mayor Gifford Marshall and is being coordinated by Ras Aaron Blackman who indicated that medals and trophies won at an earlier meet, the Rockville Hotel Promotions 4 miles road race, will be presented to the respective winners at the completion of the 10K road race.

Participants are asked to assemble at the Bartica Community Centre at an ample time prior to the race to be transported to the starting point. Interested participants are urged to uplift registration forms form the Bartica NDC office.

Organizers are also appealing to members of the corporate community of Bartica for their support to ensure the development of sports in the community is sustained.
