A 38-year-old miner lost his life on Tuesday afternoon after a branch from a tree fell and struck him to his head.
Dead: Damyon Gibson
Dead is Damyon Gibson of Lot 17 Caribese Hill, Bartica, Essequibo River. The incident occurred at about 12:00h, at Two Point Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
Gibson, according to Police, was the owner of a four-inch land dredging operation at Two Point Backdam. At the time when the accident occurred, he was standing with a friend talking at the work ground when suddenly a branch from a nearby tree fell and struck him to his head, causing him to sustain injuries.
His workers rushed to his assistance, and took him to the Aurora Mining Company, Cuyuni River, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
His body was later transported to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where Police observed injuries to his head and right hand.
The body is presently at the Bartica Hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination. (G9)
