BCB and SAVE hosts successful social seminar for youths
The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) last Saturday hosted a very successful one-day social seminar with the NGO SAVE. The seminar was held at the Albion Community Centre Ground, and saw the attendance of close to 75 youths drawn from clubs across the county.
The seminar was declared open by BCB President Hilbert Foster, who welcomed the players and urged them to learn as much as possible on the topics that would be discussed, as the board was determined that they develop into role models and sports ambassadors for the ancient county.
Foster also spoke on the need for cricketers to develop a regimen of hard work, discipline and dedication, and stated that the board, during 2022, would be investing heavily in programmes and coaching clinics that would assist cricketers to develop on and off the cricket field.
Region Six Chairman David Armogan congratulated the BCB and the Suicide and Violence Eradication (SAVE) NGO for collaborating to host the much-needed programme.
Armogan also congratulated the BCB on the outstanding work it has been doing. He said he is confident that the seminar would achieve its objectives on educating the youths on the topics: anti- suicide, domestic violence, and mental health.
Head of SAVE, Nazim Hussain, congratulated the BCB for accepting his offer to hold the seminar, and for properly organising it within one week. He committed the NGO to working along with the proactive BCB to host more programmes in the future for more youths.
The day’s event saw presentations by Hussain, Phillip Drayton, Zipporah Joseph and Dr Vishalya Sharma. Dr Sharma, head of the health sector in Region Six, took the opportunity to express thanks to the BCB and SAVE for joining hands to educate youths on the wide array of topics.
BCB Public Relations Officer Jonathan Rampersaud disclosed that the board is currently working on an updated edition of its youth information booklet. This booklet would be distributed free of cost to all youth players in the county. It covers topics such as public speaking, manners for a public ceremony, suicide, danger of illegal drugs, table manners, how to do a job interview, personal hygiene, importance of education, and the role of a sports ambassador.
