Beacon Cafe funds replacement bicycle for national U23 champion Cutting

Beacon Cafe owner Ramdeo Kumar has stepped forward to fund the acquisition of a new racing bicycle for Guyana’s national Under-23 cycling champion, Ajani Cutting, whose bike was destroyed in a crash less than three weeks before his scheduled departure for the Caribbean Cycling Championships.
The Kaieteur Attack Racing Cycling Club (KARCC) said Kumar and his team responded swiftly to an online appeal, helping address a major setback to Cutting’s preparations for national duty in the Dominican Republic.
Cutting has been selected for the Guyana squad scheduled to attend the championships from October 8–13, 2026. The national team is expected to depart on October 8.
The cyclist crashed on Sunday, September 20, during the annual Victor Macedo Memorial Road Race. The incident occurred in the Belladrum area on the West Coast of Berbice, leaving his racing bicycle damaged beyond repair. He escaped without life-threatening injuries.

With limited time to secure a replacement, an appeal was launched for assistance. KARCC said Kumar intervened to initiate and fund the acquisition of a new elite road racing bicycle, easing concerns about Cutting’s ability to compete at the regional event.
The club expressed gratitude to Kumar and the Beacon Cafe team, describing the intervention as timely and consistent with the business’s longstanding support for KARCC and local sport.
According to the club, the loss of Cutting’s bicycle had placed his participation in serious jeopardy. It said the assistance would allow the young rider to continue pursuing his ambitions on the international stage.
Cutting also expressed relief and appreciation. He said the crash had been particularly upsetting with the championships approaching and thanked Kumar and Beacon Cafe for their confidence in him and their commitment to ensuring he has the equipment needed to represent Guyana.
KARCC said it would provide further updates on Cutting’s preparations and travel arrangements as the national squad gets ready to leave for the Dominican Republic. (Michelangelo Jacobus)
