Beacon FC suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Mahaica Determinators as action in the GT Beer/BFA/Candy Boss/Antics Promotions 8-a-side Invitational Knockout Football tournament continued on Friday evening at the All Saints Ground on Princess Elizabeth Road in New Amsterdam.
The double-header also saw Number 5 advancing at the expense of NA United with a 5-4 penalty kick win.
However, the shocker of the evening was a 3-nil win by Mahaica Determinators over Beacon FC.  Despite even possession of the ball, Beacon FC could not find answers for Julius Hamilton’s 8-minute goal, and the goals scored by Neil Lynton

in the 24th minute and Orland Adams in the 57th minute.
The game, played at a very fast pace, was the feature game, and it saw last year’s semi-finalist being sent home in the first round, as Mahaica Determinators give clear indication of their intentions this year. Meanwhile, NA United and Number 5 played to a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time, and went to penalty kick-out to decide the winner. Number 5 came out victorious 5-4 to advance to the next round.
Scoring for Number 5 during regulation was Dexter Watts in the 2nd minute, while Oren Glen netted for NA United in the 36th minute. The competition continues this Sunday evening with another double-header at the same venue. Defending champions GT Police will come up against Wolves United in game one, and Cougars A will do battle with Edinburgh Gunners in game two. The first game is set to begin at 19:00h.
Teams from Berbice, Georgetown, East Coast Demerara and West Demerara are battling for supremacy and a chance to win cash prizes and trophies in excess of $1.2 million.
The winner will walk away with $600,000.
