Covent Garden Secondary School has been awarded a place in the play-offs of the Beharry Holding Inc Schools Under-19 T20 Cricket Tournament, following the disqualification of Essequibo Islands Secondary School for fielding an ineligible player.
The Ministry of Education’s Unit of Allied Arts investigated an official protest submitted by Covent Garden concerning the eligibility of Dennis Crossman, who represented Essequibo Islands during the tournament.
The investigation determined that Crossman had completed his secondary education in 2025 and was therefore ineligible to participate. Essequibo Islands were subsequently removed from the competition for breaching Rule One, which governs player eligibility.
Covent Garden will now face Annandale Secondary in the Eliminator on Sunday from 10:00h at the Queen’s College Ground.
The winner will remain in contention for a place in the final, while the losing team will be eliminated from the tournament.
Later in the day, Berbice Educational Institute will battle Abram Zuil Secondary in Qualifier One from 14:00h at the same venue.
The winner of that encounter will advance directly to the final, while the losing team will receive another opportunity to qualify.
