Belle, Atherley top field at Bartica Table Tennis tourney

St Anthony’s Primary Rhys Belle defeated Eugene Baptiste of the same school in straight sets while Emanuel Atherley produced an identical feat over Tyrese Gomes to win the Bartica Table Tennis Steering Committee organized a Primary and Secondary Schools Novices Table Tennis Tournament respectively.
After a long absence the sport in Bartica, the community centre came alive with intense action.
The tournament attracted over 30 entries including females, with players coming from St John-the-Baptiste primary, St Anthony’s Primary, Two Miles Primary, Holy Name Primary, Agatash Primary and Bartica Secondary.
Teachers and parents turned out in their numbers and gave welcomed support to their children, the steering committee and the development of the sport
Trophies and medals were donated by National Sports Commission and Guyana Table Tennis Association.
NSC admin officer Gravy C Harry, was on hand and he urged parents to continue to support the young players as they strive for success in the sport and reiterated the need for sports expansion outside of Georgetown.
This he said this can be achieved through schools hence more teachers should be trained in the sport. He also assisted with the presentation of prizes and congratulated the steering committee for a job well done.

Primary Schools boy’s final:
Eugene Baptiste of St Anthony’s Primary beat Rhys Belle of St Anthony’s Primary at 11-4, 11-8, 11-8 (3-0).

Semi Finals:
Baptiste beat Yohance Prowell (3-0) and Belle beat Romain Dower (3-0)

Players who reached the quarter finals were: Eugene Baptiste, Rhys Belle, Yohance Prowell, Romain Dower, Reon Hall, Jaswan Seenarine, Simon Phillips and Adrian Bobb.

Primary Schools girl’s final:
Ashley Arthur (Two Miles Primary) beat Kristie Rambharat (St John-the Baptiste Primary) 11-4,11-5,11-7 (3-0)

Secondary School Final:
Emanuel Atherley beat Tyrese Gomes at 11-4,11-7,11-5 (3-0)

Semi Finals:
Atherley beat Keenan Harper (3-0) and Gomes beat Sean Jones (3-2)
