A 31-year-old businesswoman of No. 50 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was on Thursday relieved of over $9 million in cash and other items within the compound of a financial institution at Springlands, Corriverton, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
Based on reports received, the businesswoman arrived at the bank with a small suitcase containing $9 million and a shoulder bag containing another sum of cash and a cellular phone.
However, as she made her way towards that bank, she was allegedly confronted by a male who tugged at her shoulder bag and pressed an object against her waist while threatening to shoot her.
Fearful for her life, the woman released the suitcase while the suspect also took away the shoulder bag containing $15,040 and an iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The suspect subsequently jumped onto a waiting motorcycle, which sped off the scene. Police have since secured the CCTV footage, which is being reviewed as investigations continue.
