Dead is 22-year-old Lincoln Carmichael of Seafield Village, WCB, while his childhood friend, Shemar Hercules, was admitted a patient at the Fort Wellington Hospital. Based on information received, the two friends were heading home after a night out when the driver, Hercules, lost control of the car and crashed into a utility pole.
Upon impact, the car reportedly wrapped around the pole, thus causing severe injuries to Carmichael, who was the front seat passenger.
Guyana Times understands that the driver might have been under the influence of alcohol and more so, he was speeding.
However, Carmichael was reportedly pinned in the mangled vehicle and it took some time to pull him out but it was too late. He reportedly died on the spot.
Hercules was nevertheless pulled from the wreckage by public-sprinted persons and rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital where he remains hospitalised.
At the home of the dead man, his mother, Samantha Carmichael, was still in a state of shock and disbelief that her son was no more.
She explained that she was awakened by a phone call from a friend of her now dead son enquiring about his whereabouts.
“He ask me if my son reach home as yet and I say no, and then he seh is truth Lincoln reach up with an accident…so I got up right away and put on some clothes and then my brother-in-law confirm that he was indeed in an accident but he was unconscious but while going in the bus, the news come back that he died” the woman cried.
According to the woman, her son left home at about 17:30h on Saturday, claiming that he was going with Hercules to a bar-b-que but she did not hear back from him until she received the news of the accident on Sunday morning.
She further stated that the now dead man was supposed to return to Barbados but his father asked him to hold on a little while longer. “So that is [what] was keep him here all now”, the mother stated.
The young man, his mother stated, only recently completed a course at MACORP but was yet to gain employment. “This is why we say let him go to Barbados with his father and see what he can do over there”, she stated.
His intention, however, was to open a business but he was encouraged by his friends to apply for a US Visa since there are endless opportunities there. The plan, she added, was for them to complete their home and the business would have been opened in the lower flat.
The mother, nevertheless, stated that her son was a jovial person, one who was very outgoing and friendly. “Everybody does say is a good boy because in the afternoon, he normally go out on the road to help me sell and he friends them use to say that he mother got he doing something good” Carmichael relayed.
The dead man’s uncle said that he will miss Carmichael since the two shared a close relationship.
