Berbice duo busted with 9.2kg of ganja in GTown operation

A 25-year-old construction worker of New Market Street, Rose Hall Town, Berbice, and 24-year-old farmer of Eversham, East Corentyne, Berbice were taken into custody following the discovery of a quantity of cannabis along Cemetery Road, Georgetown on Monday evening. Based on reports received, a motorcar in which the two men were travelling was intercepted and searched, during which two black garbage bags containing the cannabis were found in the trunk. The two men were arrested and escorted along with the suspected cannabis to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, where the ganja was weighed and amounted to 9.20 kilograms (kg). They remain in custody pending charges.

Meanwhile, in another operation, this time on the West Coast of Demerara (WCD), police searched an abandoned plot of land at Meten-Meer-Zorg where a quantity of cannabis was discovered concealed among a clump of bushes. The cannabis was taken to the CID Headquarters, where it was weighed and amounted to 148 grams. At the time of the operation, no arrests were made.
