A Berbice resident is now in the custody of Police after he was on Saturday busted with a large quantity of cannabis (ganja).
The 23-year-old, of Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje, Berbice, was caught with
the illegal substance around 12:45h.
Guyana Times understands that the unemployed man was at the time of the discovery in Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice (ECD) and was said to be heading to Georgetown.
Reports received indicated that the man was a commuter when the vehicle in which he was travelling was stopped by ranks, who were at the time conducting a routine road operation.
It was then that the 1395 grams of cannabis was found in a haversack that the accused was carrying.
As such, he was arrested and taken to a Police Station where he was later charged with the offence.
He is currently being processed for court.
