A 41-year-old man of AA-Kingston, (Little India) Number 79 Village, Corriverton, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) was on Thursday charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Wesley Antonio Barry appeared before Springlands Magistrate Alex Moore and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which
alleged that on April 26, at Corriverton, Berbice, he had in his possession 25.9 kilograms of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Defence attorney Pamela De Santos made a successful bail application on his behalf, and he was placed on $150,000 bail after initially being ordered to post bail in the sum of $250,000.
Guyana Times understands that Barry was arrested during an operation which was carried out by CANU ranks. Based on reports received, CANU ranks had swooped down on Barry’s property and carried out a search that unearthed several well-labelled packages containing ganja. The cannabis was confiscated, and when weighed in the presence of Barry, amounted to 25.9 kilograms. He was thus taken into custody, pending his first court appearance. (G15)
