A collision involving a motorcar and a heavy-duty lorry along the Nigg Public Road, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), on Tuesday has left one man dead. Twenty-six-year-old Joshua Crawford of Alness Village, Corentyne, who was at the time driving motorcar PZZ 5030, succumbed to his injuries moments after colliding with motor lorry GAF 3405. Based on the reported receipt, the lorry was proceeding east along the roadway when it collided with the motorcar that was travelling in the opposite direction. Police stated that the motor car suddenly turned north into the path of the approaching lorry, thus resulting in the smash-up. Crawford was pulled from the wreckage in an unconscious state and rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was examined and immediately transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further medical attention.
However, upon arrival at the New Amsterdam hospital, he was pronounced dead. Police stated that the lorry was being driven by a 29-year-old man of Alness Village, Corentyne. A breathalyser test administered on the driver showed that he was below the legal limit of alcohol consumption with readings of 16 and 13 micrograms. He was taken into police custody as investigations continue.
