Berbice man killed by car on Corentyne highway

A Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) man was killed by a speeding car as he was riding along the Albion Public Road.
Dead is 58-year-old Snerace Mackoon of Kilcoy-Chesney, North Corentyne, Berbice. Meanwhile, a 35-year-old passenger in the motor car sustained minor injuries.
Reports are that the accident involving motor car HB 4053, which was driven by a 31-year-old man of Edinburgh, East Bank Berbice (EBB) and the pedal cyclist, occurred about 07:45h on Wednesday.
Police have since said that investigations revealed that the pedal cyclist was proceeding east along the road, in the vicinity of Cropper School Street, when he attempted to cross the road from north to south. It was while crossing that he was hit by the motor car, which was proceeding west.
As a result of the collision, the pedal cyclist was thrown onto the left front windshield before falling to the road’s surface and sustaining injuries to his head and body.
He was picked up by the driver in an unconscious condition and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body of the deceased is presently at Ramoo Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said a breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of the motor car and there was no trace of alcohol. They also stated that they have reviewed Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage of the accident as investigations continue. (G9)
