Berbice man released on own self bail after pleading guilty to trafficking 5.994 kg ganja

– other gets $200,000 bail for denying charge

Arrested last Saturday with 13lbs of ganja at Fort Ordnance Village in East Canje Berbice, Shammy Edwards, 23, and Ken Subnar, 49, were on Monday arraigned before New Amsterdam Magistrate Michelle Matthias
jointly charged with possession of narcotics.

The cannabis found in possession of the two men

The charge stated that they had 5.994kgs of cannabis in their possession on March 30, 2024 at Fort Ordnance in East Canje Berbice. Edwards pleaded guilty as charged, and was released on his own recognizance pending a probation report and sentencing, but Sumner has pleaded not guilty and has been placed on $200,000 bail.

These two men were arrested following the discovery of a large quantity of cannabis at their residence in Berbice. CANU has said that its officers conducted an operation at a residence, during which several bulky parcels of suspected cannabis were found concealed in a freezer. These two men were present at the premises during the operation, and were thus apprehended. The narcotics tested positive for cannabis, and weighed approximately 5.994 kilograms (almost 13.21lbs) which has a street value of approximately $1.8 million.
