Berbice Mecca Classic Basketball Championship continues on Saturday

The ancient county of Berbice will break the new year with the Berbice Basketball Association’s end-of-year Berbice Mecca Classic Basketball Championship, to be held at various basketball courts in Berbice.
This weekend will feature a double-header, which commences at 18:00 hrs with Fyrish Black Sharks taking on Canje Knights; while, at 19:30 hrs, Rose Hall Town Jammers will oppose Hopetown Stealer at the New Amsterdam Basketball Court.
On Sunday, Fyrish Black Sharks will journey to Hopetown for another round of games at that village’s basketball court, starting from 17:00 hrs.
The championship continued last Saturday at the New Amsterdam Basketball Court with Rose Hall Town Jammers defeating Fyrish Black Sharks 68-41. Shamer France scored 21 points and 4 steals for the Jammers, while Malcolm Mickle contributed 12 points and 6 steals.
Garfield Benjamin posted 23 points and 4 rebounds for Fyrish, while Allandro Hercules supported with eight points.
On Sunday, Canje Knights took on Hopetown Stealers in a thriller, which the former won 53-52. Tyrone Dey scored 12 points, while Jamol Felix scored 10 and Steve Roopnarine 8 points for Canje Knights. The Hopetown Stealers’ scorers were Kebon Mars with 15 points, 6 assists and 2 steals; and Debon Nedd, who put up 12 points.
