Berbice remains undefeated, Select Under-19 record victory

2019 GCB Senior Female T20 Inter-County Tournament…

The second round of the 2019 Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Senior Female T20 Inter-County Tournament continued with matches at Everest. This round of matches witnessed Essequibo taking on Berbice and Demerara challenging the Select Under-19 team.
In the first match, Berbice won the toss and inserted Essequibo to bat. Essequibo fell for a meager 39 all out in 16.4 overs. The Essequibo innings saw all the batters crumbled cheaply with only Wavey King scoring eight. Off-spinner Ashmini Munisar stood as the most destructive bowler for Berbice, picking up three wickets for 18 runs, while Sheneta Grimmond and Tremayne Smartt supported with two

wickets for 9 and two runs respectively. Berbice, in reply, comfortably achieved their winning target, scoring 41 for 2 in just 5.2 overs. Grimmond top scored with 18 runs. Estelle Lewis was the lone wicket taker for Essequibo, with one for 2 runs as Berbice won by eight wickets.
In the second match, Select Under-19 won the toss and decided to field. Demerara being given the opportunity to bat first could only post 104 for eight in their 20 overs. Akaze Thompson top scored with 21, while Lashuna Toussaint and Kaysia Shultz contributed 15 runs each to the score sheet. Bowling for Select Under-19, Mandy Mangru claimed three for 14 while Shabika Gajnabi picked up another two wickets for 17 runs.
In reply, Select Under-19 successfully achieved their target scoring 106 for five in 18.4 overs. Mandy Mangru and Shabika Gajnabi made valuable contributions of 35 and 34 runs respectively while Africa Gentle contributed 10 to the total. Bowling for Demerara, Joanna Vansertima and Kaysia Shultz picked up two wickets for 18 and 25 runs respectively, as Select Under-19 won by five wickets.
The third and final round of this tournament will take place on Sunday, February 10 from 09:00h at GCC Ground where Select Under-19 will battle Essequibo, while Demerara will face Berbice. A presentation will follow upon conclusion of the tournament.
