A 15-year-old school drop-out from Corentyne, Berbice has been remanded for stabbing a taxi driver to death. The teen appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court on Monday to answer to the capital offence.

murdered 37-year-old Deonarine Laljit of Number 72 Village, Corentyne.
The matter has been transferred to the Skeldon Magistrate’s Court and is awaiting a Police report.
The school drop-out was not required to plea when the charge was read to him.
As he stood in the dock, the teenager seemed scared and unaware of the legal implications during the proceedings. During the hearing, most of the time he focused on his father who was in the courtroom.

vicinity of the Number 69 Village, Corentyne and was reportedly heading to Baul Street, Corriverton. He reportedly had the murder weapon, a knife, stashed in a haversack he was carrying at the time. This newspaper was told that the teen waited until he was alone in the car with the driver, after which he stabbed the man unexpectedly in his neck.
Residents of Linepath had stated that they saw Laljit’s car stop at Baul Street, Line Path ‘E’, Corriverton at around 12:30h. However, subsequently, they saw a teen rushing out of the car, after which they saw the driver exiting the said car with blood gushing from his neck.
