Berbice Women clinch GCB U-19 inter-county tournament
The Berbice Women defeated Demerara at Everest Cricket Club to clinch the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Under-19 inter-county tournament. In the 20-over fixture, Berbice posted 182-1 after 20 overs while Demerara were bowled out for 87 in 18.1 overs.
In Berbice innings, opener Realeanna Grimmond scored an unbeaten 91 from 63 balls, an innings that included 13 fours and two sixes. She was supported by fellow opener Tia Isaacs, who made 31, and Captain Ashmini Munisar, who made 30 not out. Munisar slammed three fours and one six in her 18-ball knock. Ciana Barkoye had 1-37 from four overs.
Demerara failed get out of the blocks, and Berbice bowlers had a collective showing. Darshanie Subramanie had 3-3 from 2.1 overs and Grimmond returned with the ball to claim 2-10. Trisha Hardat also had 2-9 as Demerara were bundled out for 87. Naomi Barkoye made 16 and Melanie Dover scored 10. Extras contributed 44 runs.
The young Grimmond, who plays for Rose Hall Canje, was the Most Valuable Player. She scored 120 runs in the two games she played – the most runs made by a batter. Her team-mate, Niveena Ramnauth had the most wickets, claiming three wickets in the two games, and she also had the best economy rate.
