Berbice youth arraigned for murdering cousin at birthday bash

Rockey Harper was on Friday arraigned for the murder of his cousin when he made his appearance at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court.

Murdered: Reaz Mohamed

Harper of Lot 1 Section A D’Edward Village, West Bank Berbice (WBB), was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on February 21, 2021, he murdered 25-year-old Reaz Mohamed, a fisherman.
As such, he was remanded to prison by Magistrate Peter Hugh and the matter was transferred to the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court for March 2, 2021.
On February 21, Harper reportedly armed himself with a knife and slashed his cousin to the throat during a birthday celebration. It was reported that Mohamed became disorderly when the music was taken off and started to break a few glasses.
His father, Farook Mohamed, attempted to calm him down but the now dead man instead directed his anger at his father. His uncle then intervened and they attempted to restrain him.

Following the incident, Harper went into hiding but the next day, he reportedly turned himself in at the Fort Wellington Police Station and confessed to the crime.
