Region 6 Sports Officer jailed for assaulting reputed wife

Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) Sports Officer Godwin Allicock was sent to jail for assaulting his reputed wife, Vanetta Thomas, who is also the Deputy Regional Executive Officer (DREO).

Allicock, 42, appeared in a New Amsterdam Court before Magistrate Renita Singh on Friday and pleaded guilty to the charges which stated that in December 2020, he used threatening language to Thomas while being armed with two knives.
He was sentenced to three months on each charge. The Magistrate ordered that the sentences run concurrently.
Allicock, who is employed at the Regional Democratic Council, and his reputed wife Venetta Thomas separated a few months ago.
It is alleged that Allicock made threatening remarks to Thomas, who went to the Police Station to make a report. It was in the presence of Police officers that he whipped out the two knives and allegedly made other threats to Thomas.
The woman was taken to a safe location as the officers tried to disarm Allicock. He was nevertheless arrested sometime after he left the Police station.
