As basketball continue to make strides on the local scene, the organization, Youth Basketball Guyana held its Annual Fives’ Challenge Series on Friday, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall seeing a number of new faces making a name for themselves as they showcasing their talents.
The one-day event saw participation from 37 teams in four divisions including Girls’ Under 16, boys U-16, U-19 and Past Students. The action-packed day also included three points and free throw contest, where 21 and 15 shooters competed for the best shooter titles.
The Bishop’s High School (BHS) were the most dominant team in the female category as they defeated New Amsterdam Multilateral with Keshan Charles of BHS winning the MVP award.
However, in the under 16 boys division, the BHS boys were unable to stop McKenzie High School (MHS) with Yonnick Tappin leading them to the title.
Linden Technical Institute (LTI) defeated Plaisance Secondary for the under 19 boys’ title with George Yearwood (LTI) being named the MVP. Also, Mackenzie’s Past Student defeated Saints Stanislaus PS for the Past Student Title with Quincy East (MHS) was named MVP.
The Fives’ Challenge Series was made possible compliments of Youth Basketball Guyana, the National Sports Commission, Banks DIH and Digicel Guyana.
