Big names on board inaugural Media Appreciation

– MACORP, Banks DIH, NexGen among organisers

NexGen Global Marketing, in association with local business giants Banks DIH, MACORP, and New Trend Auto and Party Castle, will be hosting the first ever Media Appreciation Awards Ceremony, set for December 20 at 18:30h at Bookland Gardens, at the corner of Woolford Avenue and Albert Street, Georgetown.
With local media operatives continuing to play an invaluable role in the world of sports, business and culture, these major companies have come together to show their appreciation for the remarkable efforts made by the media in the various areas over the past year.
Media houses will be given opportunity to nominate for awards journalists who have been outstanding in their respective fields during the course of 2018. Several awards are set to be given out.
Local pro golfer Guillermo Escarraga, new Head of the Machinery Corporation of Guyana (MACORP) — which recently celebrated 25 years of operation in Guyana and has played a key role in the local development of golf — speaking on the move to hail the local media fraternity for not only its work in sport, but in business and other related areas, said his company “felt it was a great initiative to celebrate the efforts made by the media houses”, and that his company was “proud to be a part of this event.”
Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) and NexGen head, Aleem Hussain, said the move was geared towards showing appreciation for the media, which have played the main role in projecting what each sponsor, company and athlete represents.
“Without the extra efforts made by the members of the media, we could not have accomplished the goals we set in 2018, and informed the public in such grand fashion. The companies (which) have joined together are some of the elite businesses in the country, (and they recognise) the media plays an important role in ensuring that vital and necessary information is passed on to the public in a timely manner,” Hussain said.
Sport has been on the radar both locally and internationally in 2018, with a number of athletes representing the country at international and/or regional levels. Guyana has also seen significantly more exposure being given to youth and culture, as well as to the ever prominent business sector.
Carlton Joao of Banks DIH has saluted the decision to recognise the media corps by saying, “The (DIH) decision to participate was made without hesitation. Banks DIH is one of the largest sponsors of sports in the country, with contributions to almost every type of sporting (activity) in Guyana”.
Entrepreneur and business owner Rudy Ramalingum, of the New Trend Auto and Party Castle enterprise, applauded the event and expressed the opinion that without the contributions of the media, the general public would never know all that is happening in the country. “These are the eyes and ears of the people, and they, too, need to be rewarded for their time and hard work,” he said.
