South American Youth Games: Cummings advances before Round of 16 exit; Singh bows out in eliminations

Guyana’s youth archer Brandon Cummings advanced to the Round of 16 in the Recurve Individual category before exiting in the next stage of competition at the ongoing South American Youth Games in Panama, recording a dominant opening win, but falling to a higher-ranked opponent in the Round of 16.
Cummings secured his place in the 1/8 round with a comprehensive 6-0 victory over Paraguay’s Matias Caballero in the 1/16 stage. The Guyanese archer controlled the match from the outset, winning all three sets with scores of 23-20, 25-20 and 21-17 to complete a straight-sets result.

However, he was unable to carry that momentum into the Round of 16, where he went down 1-7 to Argentina’s Gabriel Tonina. Cummings matched his opponent in the opening set with both archers scoring 27, but Tonina edged ahead on set points. The Argentine then took control of the contest, winning the next three sets 28-15, 28-23 and 28-19 to seal progression.
Meanwhile, Guyana’s Ravish Singh exited his Compound Individual matchup after a 105-142 defeat to Colombia’s Juan Gonzalez. Singh recorded consistent scores of 24 in his first two ends but fell behind after posting 15 and 16 in the middle stages, before closing with 26. Gonzalez, in contrast, delivered a strong and steady performance throughout, registering scores of 27, 28, 29, 28 and a perfect 30 to comfortably secure the win.
