Every year around this time, the Guyana National Stadium is transformed into a kaleidoscope of colours as Inspired Inc hosts its annual Phagwah Mela, where Guyanese from all walks of life gather to celebrate the event.
Holi, the festival of colours, will be held on Thursday, March 21, and while various groups will be hosting melas, the Guyana National Stadium is expected to be packed to capacity. Not only will those in attendance take the opportunity to partake with the powders and water, they will be entertained by several local and international artistes.
On this note, Guyana’s Baboo, Terry Gajraj will be in the house. He will be accompanied by Randy Ramdhin and Marissa out of the USA. The local line-up includes Reigning Chutney Monarch Steven Ramphal along with AW Lyrical Williams. As usual, the Ishara Dance Group who are known for their energetic performances will also share the stage.
There will also be skits and other cultural pieces. The artistes will be backed by the Shakti Strings Orchestra. For those who are lovers of seven-curry, there will be lots on sale as well as sweet meats.
There will also be other items on sale. The event this year is sponsored by Caribbean Airlines, the Social Cohesion Ministry, INDI spices, Star Party Rentals, Big Pops Trucks and Spares, and Puran Brothers Disposal Services.
Admission to the Guyana National Stadium is absolutely free. Gates will be opened at 14:00h.
