Blairmont and Achievers register victories in 50 overs tournament

BCB/WBCA/Brian Ramphal Under- 19 tournament…

The Berbice Cricket Board-organised West Berbice Cricket Association/Brian Ramphal under-19 tournament bowled off on Saturday last at two venues. The four teams playing in the tournament are Achievers, D’Edward, Paradise and Blairmont.

At the Paradise Ground, Achievers won the toss and elected to bat, and posted an imposing 305 for nine from their allotted 50 overs. Jayden Samuels top scored with 67, hammering ten boundaries, batting at number seven. The talented Samuels added 130 for the ninth wicket with Shelton Ramsay who made 55 with five boundaries and a six. Collis Noble, a Berbice youth player, battled well to make 54 with seven boundaries and two sixes. Omari Arthur and Darius Joseph scored 27 and 17 respectively to offer support.

Herman Semple was the principal wicket-taker with four for 65 and received support from off-spinner Daniel Ramoutar with 3 for 37 in 4.3 overs. Paradise, in reply, were bowled out for 46 in 12.4 overs as Shelton Ramsay with 4 for 16 and Shamroy Ramsay with 4 for 19 bowled well.

At the Cotton Tree Ground, Blairmont CC defeated D’Edward CC by 94 runs despite a brilliant innings of 94 from Adel Milex for D’ Edward. Blairmont amassed 253 all out from 43.2 overs as national player Marvan Prashad top scored with a polished 75, which included six boundaries and five sixes. Satyah France 42 (3×4, 1×6) and Farook Subhan 24 (2×4, 2×6) offered support to Prashad.

Bowling for D’ Edward Inderjeet Lalsa took 2 for 12 and Tony Dalana took 2 for 20. In response, D’Edward were bowled out for 157 in 31 overs despite a brilliant 94 from Milex, who blasted ten massive sixes and six boundaries. Only Hemraj Harilall with a patient 18 offered support to Milex as Shreedat Roopnarine’s 4 for 11 and Anthony Sukhraj’s 2 for 31 were outstanding for Blairmont.

The historic tournament is been sponsored by overseas BCB donor Brian Ramphal, and is one of four that would be played before a countywide tournament which would include approximately 20 teams. The other tournaments would be the Rickey Itwaru Lower Corentyne, Ahmad Construction Upper Corentyne, and Premium Asphalt Construction New Amsterdam.
