New Amsterdam/Canje defeat West Berbice to win second place prize

BCB/Nand Persaud Co Ltd Female 30 overs tournament…

Former West Indies player Tremayne Smartt was the outstanding player as New Amsterdam/Canje defeated West Berbice/Achievers by 37 runs to emerge second place in the Berbice Cricket Board- organised Nand Persaud Co. Ltd 30 overs female cricket tournament.
Rose Hall Town Metro had earlier been declared Champions after defeating both teams in the earlier rounds.

Playing at the historic Rose Hall Canje Welfare Community Ground, New Amsterdam/Canje batted first after being invited to do so by the visitors. They amassed 135 all out from their allotted 30 overs, with Smartt top scoring with 35. She was well supported by Kassie Munroe’s 27 and Ashmini Munisar’s 13.
Bowling for West Berbice/ Achievers, Devona Frank took 2 for 11 and Tea Isaacs took 2 for 20. West Berbice, in reply, were dismissed for 88 in 14.3 overs as national player Katana Mentore top scored with an unbeaten 37 and R. Liverpool chipped in with 16.
The best bowlers for New Amsterdam/Canje were Smartt with 4 for 17, and Ashmini Munisar with 2 for 17.
BCB Secretary Angela Haniff congratulated the home team for emerging in the second place, and urged the disappointed West Berbice girls to keep improving.
She also expressed thanks to the Management of the Nand Persaud Co. Ltd Group of Companies for their sponsorship of the tournament especially, Marketing Executive Divesh Persaud.
The BCB also handed over a trophy and financial prize to Ashmini Munisar, captain of the Winning New Amsterdam/ Canje team.
