Being held under the theme “Options for Youths”, sessions in this academy will run from 14:00h to 17:00h daily until August 25.
In their first indoor engagement, the innovative Hussain and Baksh enlightened the youths on the various careers available in cricket.
the opening day saw 15 of the participants being at the Under-13 level, and Baksh disclosed that he was happy to see them, especially since they constituted almost half the attendees at the academy. He thus lauded the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) for its initiative in hosting tournaments for Under-13s players.
BCB president Hilbert Foster will today visit the academy, while former West Indies fast bowler and Guyana Cricket Board Territorial Developmental Officer Colin Stuart has confirmed that he would visit the academy on Friday, August 16.
Seeking to target youths on the West Coast of Berbice from age 10 to 16, this academy has talent identification as its priority.
Youths will have opportunity to join the academy as it progresses, since systems are in place. The coaching sessions will have both indoor and outdoor components spearheaded by qualified coaches and cricketing personnel. In addition to the cricketing knowledge on offer, participants will be exposed to health classes, career opportunities, and leadership and other disciplines which develop young cricketers into rounded individuals.
The BCCC will this Saturday host a day of fun for the academy participants at the Cotton Tree ground. Persons interested in joining the academy are invited to contact BCCC vice-president Shabeer Baksh on 628-6767. (Brandon Corlette)
