A 33-year-old boat captain from Long Dam, Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) was arrested on Sunday following the discovery of a firearm during a police operation at Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni). Police stated that they conducted an operation in the area during which a boat operated by the suspect was intercepted and searched, during which one black Glock 19 pistol, fitted with one magazine, was found beneath a cardboard box next to the captain’s seat. No ammunition was found. The captain, who does not hold a firearm licence, was arrested and escorted to the Issano Police Station, where he remains in custody pending charges.
