A shop owner was attacked and brutally chopped about the body by a cutlass-wielding man who invaded his property at Black Water Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The injured man was identified as 40-year-old Elroy Williams who resides at Good Intent, West Bank Demerara and operates a shop at Black Water Backdam.
Based on reports received, the man sustained severe injuries to both his legs and to his neck. He, however, is presently in stable condition at the Bartica Regional Hospital.
According to information received, at about 1:30h on the day in question, the suspect made his way into the man’s house through a window, and carried out the brutal attack. After committing the act, the suspect made good his escape, leaving the businessman bleeding in the bedroom.
However, a short while later, the suspect reportedly visited the injured man and apologised for hurting him.
He declared that he had been under the influence of alcohol, and had not meant to hurt the businessman.
After apologising, the suspect went into hiding, but a report was lodged with the Police and an investigation has been launched.
